Two items that parents who often take their young children on car journeys should buy

If you routinely travel around in your car with your young children, then you might want to invest in these two accessories.

A roof basket

One item that you should definitely consider buying is a roof basket. In addition to creating another storage space in which you can keep child-related goods, like your baby's pram, it could also help to keep your young family members safe during car journeys.

For example, if you have a job that requires you to carry around hazardous equipment (for instance, if you're a tradesperson and you have to keep a toolkit in your vehicle or if you run a small catering business and often have to lug things like sets of kitchen knives and other dangerous cooking items around in your car), then a roof basket could be incredibly useful. The reason for this is that if there are occasions on which your car boot is already full and the only option you have is to lay your hazardous work items on one of the seats whilst you drive around with your kid, then there is a chance that your child could grab one of these items when you're focused on the road, mistake it for a toy and then accidentally inflict an injury on themselves or on you whilst trying to play with it.

By attaching a roof basket to the car exterior, you can ensure that you always have a place to put these hazardous items (even when the vehicle's boot is at full capacity) that your child has no means of accessing during car journeys. This should ensure that you never have to worry about these items compromising your family's safety when you're driving.

A mirror for your baby's car seat

If your baby's car seat faces away from you when you are sitting in the driver's seat, then you may also want to get a mirror that you can attach to the headrest that your baby's seat faces.

This will allow you to see if your baby has fallen asleep (which could be very helpful if you often need to take them out on road journeys during their naptimes and want to ensure that they are actually resting during these periods) and will ensure that if they suffer any type of medical emergency that impedes their ability to cry and alert you to their distress, you can see their face in the mirror and call for help immediately. It will also ensure that if they've have managed to get hold of, for example, some food you had lying around the car, which they are not supposed to eat, you can spot them chewing on it and take if off them before they make a mess.
